pretty little ring time

February 25 is officially the first night on the year 2009 that I was able to sleep with the window open and wake up to birds chirping in the morning. This can only mean that spring is inching closer everyday. Much needed.

Yesterday I went to school for a bit and helped the students create paintings to represent the Van Gogh quote, “There is no blue without yellow and without orange.” We discussed the meaning behind the quote, but the students did not come up with much. I think it is a statement about race saying that one solitary race cannot exist alone in the world.

After school I went to class then sat out on the green by Scripts and called me dad. We talked for awhile about my parents upcoming visit and how things are at home. Then I went to the student center to attend a registration session for the teacher recruitment consortium. Consortium is an extremely uncommon word these days. I didn’t even know how to properly spell it.

Anyway, after that I ran down to Hillel to see a presentation and lecture on Jewish photojournalists during WWII and the Holocaust.

Today I am teaching a poetry lesson then I have a quiz on the Soviet Union. The rest of my day will be consumed by the teacher work sample that is due Tuesday morning. bleh.

it’s all so…

the quiet that is all around me right now is so wonderful. don’t think that I don’t love being loud because I certainly do, but being home, alone, with no TV, no music, no continuously thumping base below me makes me appreciate the quiet.

drinking: water
eating: haagen dazs bailey’s irish cream ice cream (mmm…creameh)
watching: Baz Luhrmann’s Australia
reading: craft blogs
doing: book review and lesson plan ideas for social studies
looking forward to: restful sleep
thinking about: summer shoes
wishing: that it was sunny even though it’s nighttime

sweet concoction batman!

Last night when I was perusing my newest favorite blog, this is why you’re fat, I came across a picture of an incredibly visionary concoction. The McNuggetini. For those of you who know me personally you know that I am a dipper. I love dipping most any food and dipping salty french fries into a chocolate milkshake or chocolate frosty is one of my favorite guilty pastimes and the thought of dipping a chicken nugget into a shake doesn’t sound that bad. I would do it.

I wanted to know more so I clicked on the soruce link and found an entire post on This Recording dedicated to the adventure of making this “perfect alcoholic beverage/dinner/dessert.”

Yum. Minus the BBQ sauce.

Now all I have to do is create a -tini to top this. hmmmm…

Also, I have added a link to my new listography on the sidebar. list love!

some change, some do not

Sometimes it’s good to think about all that you are.

Currently I am:
a girl, a sister, a daughter, a cousin, a granddaughter, a twenty-something, a Jew, a future teacher, a student, a friend, a girlfriend, a lady president, a member, a roommate, a blogger, a collector, a movie lover and an east coast girl.

loves!

Aaron and I have had a lovely Valentines Day. It actually turned into more of a Valentines Week because we shared shared sweet Valentines treats from Coldstone on Wednesday night and exchanged gifts on Thursday.

He gave me this lovely mermaid pendant that he found at a local shop uptown and I gave him a dark grey and blue fleece hand tied blanket with an A on the front.

This morning he made me a yummy breakfast of eggs and toast this morning and then we enjoyed some Valentines Day couch time watching The Soup before he left for work.

I am going to be chained to my coputer all day working on a history paper about new imperialism but later tonight we are planning on crashing an anti-love party and flaunting our superb couplenss. We won’t be too cruel.

Hope you enjoy some love today and everyday!

wouldn’t we all like to go

First time writer/director Daniel Barnz knocks it out of the park with Phoebe in Wonderland, an imaginative, layered tale about a young girl struggling to fit in and find her place. Elle Fanning (younger sister of Dakota Fanning) stars as Phoebe, a nine-year-old girl who finds herself struggling against the conformity and rules around her. Phoebe is an intelligent and creative child with a passion for Alice in Wonderland.

Phoebe’s attachment to this particular literary obsession is not a coincidence; her mother, Hillary (Felicity Huffman) is writing a book on Wonderland that expounds upon her doctoral dissertation on the subject, so naturally Phoebe sees Alice as a means to be closer to her mother. It’s also not coincidental that Phoebe, like Alice, finds the normal world a very boring and rigid place where she doesn’t quite fit in, and wishes to escape to a world where anything can happen.

roses and thorns they say

“There is nothing so nice as supposing. It’s almost like being a fairy. If you suppose anything hard enough it seems as if it were real.”

-Sara, from ‘A Little Princess’ written by Frances Hodgson Burnett

I suppose that sometimes, in the dead of a dreary winter, it is alright to be sad for no reason at all. You can remember that sadness is an important human emotion. You can remember that being lonely happens to everyone. You can go to bed before 8:00 with the hopes of waking up fresh the next morning to a sunny day. And when that sunny day arrives, I suppose you can thank the ones you love for helping you through.
